Peter Stant Update

Hi all. Nice work on the site. I have lived in Denver since 2000 after stints in NYC and Houston, job related. I finally came back to Colorado after graduating from CU Boulder in 1992. Some of you may remember I didn't graduate from Darien High as I finished high school at Joel Barlow in Redding, CT. My mom thought I needed some discipline from my Dad. hah.

I work at American Lighting, an import company, as a national sales manager. I am newly single after the big D - don't mean Denver. I keep in touch with Chris Marden, Mike Marden, Jason Neely and Tom Dobson, along w/ my brother Alex Stant who is married with kiddo's and lives in CT.

I hope to make it back to Darien for the reunion, and to see my parents, as I wasn't able to over the holidays due to the Denver blizzard. I just forwarded this link onto everyone's email that I know, so maybe you'll get a couple more updates.

Regards,

Peter Stant

I see I was mentioned by name, so class of '85 is crashing your blog.

I believe I'm just beginning to paint my masterpiece. For a long time it seemed like I was stuck in the gesso stage, preparing the canvass of my life, smoothing the bumps, cleaning the slate. In short, I'm still a student of the Universal School of Heuristics. I live in Louisville, KY, my family's hometown, and I'm still single, but I fault the extraordinary women of Darien for raising the bar too high...

Of course, ever since High School I've worked in restaurants, running the gamut from dishwasher to bartender. I took a break from this line of work 7 years ago when I stopped drinking (yeah, sober!), but I still like to cook. I haven't yet worked at Jason's Place. You know there's nothing as nourishing as a home cooked meal, if I could put that much care into everything then it would be time to open up shop.

I've been practicing Yoga for about twenty years and five years ago I began to really focus my efforts on aligning my back (I lived with a hernia until 1989). One of the oldest yoga studios in the country is here; they teach Ashtanga Yoga which I now practice, and I'm ready to plan a trip to Mysore India for more instruction. Also at Yoga East I enrolled in the teacher training program to further my knowledge, knowing that eventually the student must become the teacher.

A few years ago I decided that I was missing out on a lot of telemark skiing. Peter and I skied Silverton, the steepest lift-served mountain in the 48 states. The year before, however, I almost passed out & died from hypoxia at 10,000 feet (vegetarians, beware). Opening my eyes to see a half dozen ski patrollers summoning a helo was truly a wake up call. It was then I started examining the substance of my life. What difference had I made? Though I was loathe to fit the stereotype, I admit I was going through "the" crisis. Teaching Yoga, therefore, was the obvious answer.

Without getting too ideological, I also decided to get involved in politics as a technology enabler, using the skills I acquired while working during the short lived dot com bubble which burst just as I became a CCNA. I worked on a 2006 primary campaign as the director of online fundraising, and since then I've incorporated as Campaign Kickstart LLC to do website database integration. My latest project is an email newsletter system written in the Ruby on Rails framework. RoR is the way of the future, btw, if you're a geek.
