The Andy's Trade Life Stories

From Andy Thorne:

It all belongs on the blog - especially the bullet about hair moving from places you want it to places you don't. And I have the same issue: a little more forehead every day....

Let's see what I've been up to these past years....
- Went to Colgate on the 4.5 year plan. Met my wife there. Majored in education and haven't done a darn thing with it.
- Spent most of 1992 in Guatemala working for a hippie clothing company. Overseeing a small workshop where we made clothes and bags and stuff out of handwoven fabrics.
- Back in the states in late 92, landed work with a now-defunct software company supporting magazine publishing clients
- realized I liked publishing/circulation/direct marketing.
- Bailed on software in 94 and went client-side joining a health newsletter publisher. Got married that year, bought our first house.
- In 96 bailed on that particular publsiher and joined a publishing startup - launched 12 new newsletters in 3.5 years. Fun.
- Raced 24 hours of Canaan. I still dream of being in that kind of shape again.
- Moved to the NW corner of CT for couple years from 97-00. Loved it up there - had a big old house from the 1820's, a tractor, etc...
- helped sell the newsletter business (alas, no equity stake) in 2000, joined acquirer to show them how to run it. First son born that summer. Moved to Wilton to be able to work In Greenwich
- In mid 02 second son born. Came to Alabama to run the direct marketing business for Oxmoor House in late 02. Been here ever since. I've gone from running the Harvard Health Letters to selling cookbooks full of heavy southern fried things. Funny how the money's better on the dark side, eh?
- Next Saturday I'll have my soccer coaching debut when my three year takes the field for the Hoover Soccer Club. It's pretty hard to beat for entertainment value.
